In the Sunday Mirror Cardiff City keeper, Tom Heaton has announced he will be fit for Wembley. Talking to Ken Gorman the player said,
“I feared I’d miss my Wembley dream.
“I thought I was out of the final, it would have been heart-breaking.
“But it’s healed quicker than I expected. I hope to start full training on Tuesday”
Heaton, has been out with an ankle injury for the last two weeks and fans were starting to worry he could next weekend Carling Cup Final.
In the League Heaton, has been playing a secondary role to David Marshall, but has been every present in the Carling Cup run to the final. You expect the second string goalkeeper to feature in the earlier round, but strangely Cardiff manager Malky Mackay has stuck with Heaton. However is Cup form has not materialised we league outings, only two both at the beginning of November a 3-0 win at Derby and a 2-0 a few days later at the Cardiff City Stadium against C Palace.
His penalty shootout heroics in the Carling Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace should be more than enough to clinch the goalkeeper spot Cardiff's place in the final at Wembley against Liverpool. Is it time looks beyond the Cup for Heaton and promoted him from the bench to between the sticks as it same Marshall is a shoe in for the league spot now.
