A report out of Scotland is suggesting that Cardiff City are in a race to sign Dundee United 20-year-old striker Johnny Russell and that they could make a move in the next 24 hours. The Welshman are in competition for his signature if the rumour is true with Celtic who have had two offer turned away Russell is out of contract in May. United are rumoured to want £1.5 million for their player a lot of money fr a player who could walk for free in just over four months.
He has been with Dundee United since 2003 working his way through the youth system making his first team debut 2007. He has had two loan spells both with Scottish clubs in 2008 and 2009. He has played a total of 27 times this season scoring 10 and is a Scotland U21 international.

He is contracted untill the summer of 2013 not this summer so £1.5m is a fair price
got to be honest Johnny is a very good player, however considering how long he has left on his contract £1.5million is farcical. He is in my honest opinion not as good as David Goodwillie who left for Blackburn (in a similar fashion through his contract starting to expire) for less than what United seem to be wanting for Russel...
Not sure whether to believe that Celtic were really interested in him enough to make a bid as we already have 2 on form strikers in Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper, and Georgios Samaras, Mo Banguara and Pawel Brozek now joinging the club... but that being said some of the rumours I am hearing in Glagow is it was 500k now, plus fringe players and 500k based on appearences.
Not sure if he has what it takes to challenge immediately at Cardiff, although he is sure to be a terrific prospect... really rate former Celt Malky and we have already seen that his Scottish acquisitions have been good thus far :) would be great to see the blues up in the PL next season... good luck from Glagow :)
He's not out of contract this May. It's either 2013 or 2014 - he recently signed an extension.
Johnny's a great young player, destined to go on to better things and become a full international.
His contract's not up until May 2013, hence United can hold out for a bigger fee. If he has to leave I'd rather it was to Cardiff than Celtic
Hes contracted to United until the summer of 2014, so he wont "walk for free"!!! And if Cetic do want him thay better up their paltry £500k offer!! Chancers!
russell has 18 months left on contract, 1.5m is a steal
russell has 18 months left on contract, 1.5m is a steal
Russell is under contract at United for another 18 months, not the four stated above
He has 18 months on his contract, not 4
Russell is under contract until May 2014 and will NOT walk for free in 4 months.
He has 18 months left on his contract not 4!
His contract runs out in May 2013
