QPR are Champions, but will they still be champions at the end of the week? Everyone will have to sit back and wait on the outcome of next week's Football Association hearing into the transfer of Argentinian midfielder Alejandro Faurlin. If they are fined they stay Champions which most of the pundits believe will happen. If its points deduction it will throw the whole race for promotion wide open for the two automatic spots.
The final promotion place is still between Norwich and Cardiff who both will be chasing wins on Monday night. The games are on Sky Sports so fans of the Championship can watch the closing stages of the season. Cardiff has the earlier kick-off give them the advantage to ply the pressure Norwich who kick-off not long after the Cardiff game. Cardiff also have the advantage of being at home which If both Norwich and Cardiff were to lose Swansea would the dragged to the race for that finally spot creating one hell of an end to the season. It's all about football at the end of the day .... Once a Bluebird always a Bluebird .... it's for life

I with rather see Peter Zois back than Ledley
Ex-Cardiff City player Joe Ledley has expressed his desire to return to Cardiff one day in the future and play for his old club. Well I for one hope he stays in Scotland playing Sunday league football in a two horse race of league glory. Celtic are no better than a Championship team and would struggle to win promotion if they were in it. Yes they have beaten the odd Premier League team in Europe, but how would they fair week in week out grind of the league.
I was happy for him to leave to look for a high level of football the Premier League or even one of the big European League, but the Scottish Premier League, what a joke. I don't care about the money he was never going to sign a new contract unless Cardiff won promotion and then I would have to say maybe.
He used Cardiff City to putting himself in the shop window for his last season, but no one bit Cardiff's hand off in the January transfer window. Why would any club in their right mind pay out a few million quid when in a few months they could get him on a free transfer. Stoke wanted him in the summer it was rumour, not one of the bigger Premiership clubs, but a good bottom half of the table club. They once offer £6million so him, but it was Celtic who got the players signature.
The Cardiff manager Dave Jones never wanted to sell him or let him go, but the right offer could have swayed the Cardiff City board so sell. They took a gamble in keeping him for the finally season of his contract it just didn't workout. Maybe they should have sold him the previous summer.
Big weekend for Cardiff
Woke up this morning hoping it was Monday and QPR and Swansea had both lost on the weekend. Breaking news on Sky Sports News was that the entire Norwich first team about broke their left leg in some secret Norfolk ritual and they had to fulfil the last two fixtures.
Nice to dream, but the fact is, we need ever ounce of luck including the possibility of QPR being docked over the charges of signing a player owned by a third-party with is against the FA rules. The Sun newspaper carried a story yesterday that the Londoners could be docked fifteen points according to a source in the FA, but an official statement was put out on the FA's website denying the article.
Today we need help from outside the Cardiff City family with our likely hero's of the day being Millwall were there is little brotherly love between the two sets of fans, but today Cardiff fans worldwide will have their fingers hoping for a Millwall win. They face Swansea at home who hasn't won an away game in the last five. Swansea along with QPR, Norwich and Cardiff are the only teams who are still in the race for an automatic promotion spot which for us Bluebirds fan mean a defeat or draw for them would be a blessing. Millwall are a great spot to keep up the pressure for a play-off place finish to the season so Swansea can expect a hard fought game ahead.
It's a London affair the other game of interest with QPR travel to Watford. The home team will be playing for pride having missed out on a play-off finish while a win for QPR would see the promoted as Champions of the Championship even a draw would be enough owing to a far superior goal difference.
News out of the Cardiff City camp to the up to the Middlesbrough with no talk about injury worries so base on that it looks like Cardiff will be at full strength.

Call-up for Gerrard?
Cardiff City's defender Anthony Gerrard, unwanted by Cardiff City boss Dave Jones and loan out to Hull City looks to have played himself into a Republic of Ireland international call-up. He represented Ireland at under-18 level and recently declared he saw his international future with Ireland. The Irish manager Giovanni Trapattoni, watched the defender and is believed to be about to call him into the squad for the Carling Nations Cup games against Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Gerrard has been named as the club's Player of the Season by the Hull fans. Gerrard has enjoyed a brilliant campaign for the Tigers since joining on a season-long loan from Cardiff. The Hull manager Nigel Pearson has already stressed he would like to see the 25-year-old remain at the KC Stadium next season where it is believed he has a season left on his contract.
What will City boss Dave Jones want to do keep him or sell? Will his form at Hull mean Jones could would to keep the defender, he never said he will never play for Cardiff again. His first season here was ever present at centre-back, but in pre-season something had changed and at the start of the season found himself on the bench. He got to starts in the League Cup and then loan out to Hull. His first game for Hull saw him back at the Cardiff City Stadium after both clubs agree to allow their players to play. Cardiff City had taken Hull midfielder Seyi Olofinjana on loan for the season.

Bothroyd linked with North East clubs
This morning some more transfer rumours it the Daily Mirror who over the last few have linked Cardiff City with Coventry striker Marlon King and Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone.
![]() |
| Jay Bothroyd |
Today's rumour surrounds Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd and Sunderland who along with Newcastle are reported to be keen to sign him. Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is in the market for a striker and has been link with the Cardiff player before and could be again with no transfer fee to pay.
The carrot to any interested a number of club is that Bothroyd is out of contract in the summer and he can walk away on a free transfer. He has stressed on humours occasions he is a Cardiff City player and will only look to his future at the end of the season.
For sure the Cardiff City boss Dave Jones would like him to stay and signed a new contract, but Cardiff would have to win promotion. Bothroyd wants to make the step up to the Premier League where he hopes to in hence his chances of another England recall.
From the article in the paper we would thing a deal was all sown up already. It is also reported that Sunderland boss Steve Bruce could pay Bothroyd around £30,000-a-week, way out of Cardiff reach without promotion. Time will tell, but both clubs can expect competition for his signature in the near future he will be a popular target for the rumour mill.

King again linked with Cardiff
![]() |
| Agent talk |
Cardiff City has been linked to Coventry City striker Marlon King, and not for the first time. Back in Match it was highly rumoured he would be joining Cardiff and then Coventry confirmed the approach.
At the time Coventry found themselves with financial problems when the then chairman Ray Ranson stood down. They were considering parting company with the striker because of his wages, but they decided to keep him to help in the fight from relegation which was threatening them. He joined them on a one a year contract back in September.
He is a free agent in the summer and should find himself with a number of suitors for his signature. In today's Daily Mirror newspaper besides Cardiff he is also wanted by Leicester City. It just a rumour, but sounds very much like an agent on a fishing trip and testing the water for a summer move.
His stats at Coventry are Appearances: 27 – total goals: 12 – yellow cards: 1 – red cards: 2
Squeaky bum time at Cardiff City
So close, it was so, so close, but at the end it was just out of reach, but the game is not over there are still two games left and the club, players and fans are up for it - bring it on. Cardiff looked to be on their way back to second spot after one of the most nerve-wracking games in some time for yours truly. I don't know which was worst being at the match or listening to the radio, but on my laptop chasing results listening to the game was difficult and wearing on the old ticker.
A goal in the sixth minute of the game led to a nail biting a game at 1-0 you just never feel safe especially in the last minutes of the game could that last minute equalisers ruin the day. Not yesterday anyway Cardiff had total control of the game and they had the chances, but the Preston keeper rode his luck sometimes and made some fine saves. Although if you were watching 'The Football League Show' highlights of the game you would have thought there was only a goal to the game.
Once again Craig Bellamy was all over the pitch chasing the ball down and making darting runs at the beleaguered Preston defence. It was rumoured he could be rested for the game or go on the bench, but he is reported has wanting to play. Some way into the second half of the game the Cardiff manager Dave Jones made a number of attempts to call Bellamy off, but the striker wave him away until he finally singled to the bench it was time for him to come off. He played three games in just over a week and now the whole squad will have time to rest before their next game on Monday.
The very late goal from Norwich spoiled the day for the Bluebirds every so what does the last two game hold for the rivals.

Cardiff v Middlesbrough, 17:15
Portsmouth v Norwich, 19:45
Both play on Monday with advantage going to Norwich again I say again because before today game they had over three days to rest having played Thursdays night while Cardiff played Saturday.
However, is it much of an advantage to Norwich this time if Cardiff win in the earlier kick-off it would then heap of pressure on them it could also work the other way if Cardiff were to lose. Middlesbrough have hit a rich vain of form they and have only lost one game in the last ten games hopefully home advantage on top of a packed stadium will count for a couple of goals. While Norwich City opponents Portsmouth have only won two of their last ten games. Both games are live on Sky Sports.
Saturday, 7 May 2011
Burnley v Cardiff, 12:45
Norwich v Coventry, 12:45
There are a number of scenarios that could play out on Monday,
Norwich win and Cardiff lose, Norwich are promoted.
If Norwich win and Cardiff draw there is still a chance of automatic promotion for the Bluebirds.
Cardiff win or draw and Norwich lose, Cardiff are back in second with a game to go.
The last games of the season could well be seen of TV if the promotion challenge goes right down to the final game.
It's Cardiff who on paper has the tougher game of the two. Cardiff are away to Burnley who are in the chase for a play-off place so have every reason to play their heads off looking for a win and glory. Norwich City will face Coventry with nothing to play for, but pride and their fans to end the mediocre season they have had.

City chasing keeper
Cardiff City are reported to be keen to take Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone on loan next season. The young Arsenal keeper is on loan at Hull City and will be return to Arsenal at the end of the season. Hull are keen to sign him on a permanent deal, but he signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal in 2010. Wenger and his staff rate the with Arsenal. The Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is believed to want to lean out Mannone for a season. He joined Hull in October and today played ten games, six of which have been clean sheets. The 23-year-old has made 12 appearances for Wenger in the Premiership and Champions League.
Welsh Cup next season
Cardiff City boss Dave Jones is up for a return to the Welsh Cup, but only if there is a European spot for the winner which including the Welsh teams playing outside Wales.
The politics surround the decision the exclude the Welsh clubs and including the likes of Hereford, Chester City Shrewsbury and a few others from across the border killed the competition. It was all because the then FAW Secretary General Alun Evans believed the Welsh football was under threat from FIFA who wanted to see a team GB. He felt Wales need a strong League structure so the League of Wales was launched. In the process a civil war between the FAW and Welsh non-league teams that played over the border in England.
The FAW set up the FAW Invitation Cup which became the Premier Cup and invited the English playing league clubs plus the non-league team into the competition with the BBC Wales air games live. Without a European spot for the winners the competition saw the Football league clubs turn out weaken teams.
It's been 16-years since Cardiff was in the Welsh Cup and 18-years since winning the Cup and playing in Europe against Standard Liege.Manager Dave Jones said about the FAW plans,
"If there's a European spot then I'm sure myself and the other guys at their clubs would welcome it.
“If it is going to be as it was then it wouldn’t appeal to me personally. I haven’t spoken to the board or anything but the reason we didn’t play our strongest team in it was it wasn’t worth it to us"
“If there’s a European spot, I’m sure myself and the other guys would welcome it.
“We wouldn’t want to play in the Welsh league, definitely not. I don’t think the fans would or the hierarchy would.
“No disrespect to the Welsh football league but it is not as good as playing in the English League. That is where everyone wants to be.”
And Jones said any criticism of the move by rival clubs in the English pyramid would merely be sour grapes.
“A lot of people are always moaning that we come under the FAW sanctions. That’s not the club’s fault.
“If there’s a route for us into Europe let them moan because if was given to them you would not hear a peep out of them.
“It’s nothing to do with us as a football club it’s all about the hierarchy.
“And if we are invited into the Welsh Cup it’s because we are a Welsh team and nobody complained about it before.
“European football is part of this club’s history, you think back to when Cardiff played Real Madrid that happened because they won the Welsh Cup, nothing to do with what they’d done in the English league.
“I think it was only the Welsh that stopped it, not the English, so if nobody complained then, how can they complain now?”
Vice-president Trefor Lloyd Hughes has confirmed that the FAW would be happy to nominate any of them to represent Wales in Europe should they win.
"We think that by having them in, it would raise the profile of the Cup and would help improve the playing standard of the clubs in the Welsh Premier.
"We would put their names forward to Uefa and it would then be Uefa's decision, not the FAW's, whether or not to allow them to play in Europe."
The route to play in Europe for the winners in Welsh Cup is the Europa League. The FAW will now have to talk to the football governing bodies to discuss the plan.
Cardiff City team v Preston
Heaton
Quinn McNaughton Keinan Samuel
Burke McPhail Olofinjana Whittingham
Bothroyd Bellamy
Bench - Brown (gk), Rae, Chopra, Koumas, Blake, Parkin, Hudson
Goalkeeper Tom Heaton gets the starts with Jason Brown on the bench Stephen Bywater picked up a knock in Saturday’s game against QPR. The rumoured that Craig Bellamy would be rested turnout to be untrue has he starts for David Jones this afternoon.
Bellamy doubtful?
Cardiff City flew into Preston yesterday for today's all important game after Cardiff backer billionaire backer Vincent Tan loan the players his private plane. It's a must win to keep the pressure on second place Norwich for an automatic promotion spot while hoping Derby show the same form that saw them beat Leeds and draw with QPR. On the weekend they failed to carry on their winning ways losing 4-2 to play-off chasing Burnley.
It's believed Cardiff boss Dave Jones as one small problem over who will be in the starting the game?. Will he rest Captain Craig Bellamy who has played three games in just over a week? Bellamy's personal trainer tweeted moments ago,
It's believed Cardiff boss Dave Jones as one small problem over who will be in the starting the game?. Will he rest Captain Craig Bellamy who has played three games in just over a week? Bellamy's personal trainer tweeted moments ago,
"Later this morning decision whether CB will play with Cardiff vs Preston. From physical point of view it's a no go. But it's crunch time...."
following by
"Interesting dilemma. Automatic promotion to Premier League is on the line. Will manager risk player & maybe lose him for possible play-offs?"
You call bet boss Dave Jones will not be unhappy over this rumour coming from someone so close to the player. Will he keep to the eleven that started against QPR on Saturday are we he make changes with Michael Chopra and Mark Hudson both on the bench against the Londoners.
Preston have a lot to fight for like Championship survival, they could even be relegated today if results go wrong for them.

Jonathan Owen targets football hooligans in online comedy
Cardiff City fan and actor Jonathan Owen is staring in a new online comedy spoofing the culture of football hooligans called 'The B Team'. It is along the line of his other online hit 'Svengali' which could be hitting the big screen
Need three points on Monday
Not the result Cardiff City need or wanted, but there isn't anything that can be done about it now, but to win the three remaining games and hope for a Norwich slip-up. The game may have ended all square at 2-2, but overall I think Cardiff had the best of the games Cardiff had a team while QPR had Adel Taarabt.
The buildup to the game felt like a cup final with Football focus live from the Cardiff City Stadium the only something missing was a 'It's a Knockout' competition between both sets of fans.
Everything now switches to Mondays and the Championship Bank holiday fixtures. With only three games left Cardiff have to beat Preston have to win any other result could be disastrous. Preston took a battering at Millwall losing 4-0 and will be desperate to win on Monday.
Mondays fixtures
Norwich City v Derby County, 15:00
Preston North End v Cardiff City, 15:00
QPR v Hull, 15:00
Reading v Sheffield United, 15:00
Cardiff City are a point away from at least secure a play-off spot, but few Cardiff City will be happy with that. Sheffield United could find themselves relegated if they were to lose and Crystal Palace win, the same for Preston.

Cardiff City team v QPR
Bywater
Quinn McNaughton Keinan Samuel
Burke McPhail Olofinjana Whittingham
Bothroyd Bellamy
Bench - Heaton (gk), Rae, Chopra, Emmanuel-Thomas, Blake, Matthews, Hudson
Cardiff City boss Dave Jones has stuck with the same starting 11 has for Portsmouth the major changes are on the bench. Jones when with Jay Emmanuel Thomas over Jason Koumas and the surprise is the inclusion of Michael Chopra and Mark Hudson both back after injuries.
Chopra
'Big big game tomorrow been back in training for two days now hope gaffer puts me on the bench come on leeds tonight do us a favour'
He has been out since mid-March with a hamstring tear and his speedy return would be welcome by the fans. With only two days of training under his belt it would be unlikely the Cardiff boss Dave Jones would risk throwing into the firing line even the bench today. However, Jones can be a law to himself and who knows what he is thinking.
It will be a hot one at the CCS
Not much to say about today everyone knows what is need a victory that will take Cardiff back into second and the driving seat for automatic promotion. The Bluebirds were helped along by Leeds United who drew with promotion rivals Reading.
We love you Cardiff we do, oh Cardiff we love you .... Is this the biggest Cardiff City game ever against QPR tomorrow, not quite, but it's up there? If promotion is worth at least £80million the last four games are worth £20million each mean there is a hell of a lot riding on these games.
The stat below says it all about the visitor to the Cardiff City Stadium only twice this season have they been off the top of the Championship table, both times replace by Cardiff. Team news is up in the air has both managers have kept any news to an absolute minimum. It will be roasting at the stadium and hope the atmosphere generated by the Cardiff fans will be just as hot. It will be a full house the game is a sellout for both set of fans. Live on the BBC and then worldwide for the thousand of fans who can get to the game.

Cardiff drop to third
Cardiff City dropped down to third tonight after Norwich City beat local rivals Ipswich Town 5-1 and disappointed thousand and thousand of Cardiff City fans. Norwich jump above Cardiff and are how two points clear of third placed Bluebirds, but it will mean nothing if Cardiff win their last four games.
It's another wait game tomorrow has Cardiff fans have to sit back and wait on the outcome of another game this time Reading who face a trip to Leeds. A win for Reading will see them go third and Cardiff drop too fourth. Reading have a better goal difference, but if they win all their remaining game they will be level on points with Cardiff and it would then to goal difference.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would say this, Come on Leeds
Cardiff go worldwide Saturday
Lucky for Cardiff City fans around the country and worldwide Saturdays all important fixture is live on the BBC plus other TV outlets around the world and the internet. There will be a full house at the Cardiff City Stadium and the sun should be beating down on the stadium. With the season ending so tightly it is good that the excitement is being shared, listening to the radio is OK, but watching live on TV is much better.
The last home game of the season against Middlesbrough will get an airing on Sky Sports, but fans can have a lie in with a 17:15pm kick-off. Wouldn't just be great for Cardiff to win promotion at the game, there is nothing better than that.
It could not end there with TV coverage the last game of the season away to Burnley could also hit the TV screen. It depends on games of interest to Sky Sports and I think the BBC eg promotion/relegation on the final day fixtures. A desidtion on which games will by made a week or so before the last weekend of the season.
With the game kick-off's at 12:45 UK time it leaves some exiled fans around the world some early morning starts while others it will be early evenings or later night starts
- Auckland (New Zealand) 23:45pm Saturday
- Sydney (Australia) 21:45pm Saturday
- Hong Kong (China) 19:45pm Saturday
- Honolulu (Hawaii) 01.45am Saturday
- Los Angeles (USA) 04:45am Saturday
- Vancouver (Canada) 04:45am Saturday
- Denver (USA) 05:45am Saturday
- New York (USA) 07:45am Saturday
- Kabul, (Afghanistan) 16:15pm Saturday
- Moscow (Russia) 15:45pm Saturday
If Cardiff City boss Dave Jones plans come to fruition it could be the last league game on terrestrial television for a while if Cardiff win promotion.
Fingers crossed for the right result at Ipswich
There's no game for tonight Cardiff City only one Championship game is being played, but it is important to Cardiff and their fans. A fixture between Ipswich Town and Norwich City might be the big East Anglian derby, but it of major is importance's to Welsh team season re automatic promotion. To everyone surrounding the Welsh club the destination of the points up for grabs is on the mind of Cardiff fans.
The best outcome for Bluebirds would be an Ipswich victory or at best a draw. If Norwich pick-up a point at least they will go above Cardiff into second place on goal difference. Ipswich hasn't lost in the last five and an outside chance of making a play-off spot depending on results.
They will want revenge on a 4-1 defeat from earlier in the season and the fans wouldn't love to put a dent into their rival's promotion aspirations. The visitors have not win at Portman Road since the beginning of the 2005 season.

Cardiff and the Welsh Cup
| A return to the Welsh Cup? |
All Bluebirds fans on my list here feel free to add me on Facebook if u hasn’t already Could Cardiff City find a way back into Europe via the Welsh Cup? The BBC are reporting that the FAW are about to end the 16-year absence of the Bluebirds plus Swansea City, Newport County and Wrexham, but it seems not Colwyn Bay and Merthyr Town. It would be unfair to exclude Colwyn Bay and Merthyr Town from any possible return of the exiled six.
According to the article on the BBC website the plan has been discussed at FAW council meeting recently, it could well cause some discord among the Welsh Premier League teams. It's not sure if the clubs would be interested in the Welsh Cup anyway. It would mean more games to fit in to any already congestion On the question of a place in Europe it would be in the lap of Uefa and the English FA to see if they would be allowed entry to the Europa League.
The likelihood could be the clubs would use a reserve team until the latter stages of the competition something the FAW have frond upon in the past.

Massive three pointer on Saturday
Top of the Championship table QPR could only manage a draw at home to Derby last night the game ended all square at 0-0. It would have been handy if Derby could have win, but all eyes now will be squarely sighted on the Cardiff City Stadium for the top of the table clash on Saturday.
It should be a spicy encounter at the CCS on Saturday the Londoners can guarantee promotion if they win while the Bluebirds would move within five points of the leaders with three games to go. Neil Warnock talking about the trip to Wales on Saturday said
"This is what we're in it for,"
"Everybody talks about pressure, but I'm enjoying it and loving every minute of it, me. Full house. Eight points clear with four games to go? There's a lot worse pressure.
"I think we've got four great games to come. There will be end-to-end stuff and chances galore. Cardiff have to beat us with Norwich and Reading breathing down their neck.""I love Cardiff and I like the Welsh. It's got good memories for me and I just want to go there now and do well. I'm sure a few other Championship sides will be cheering for us on Saturday.
"It will be a good atmosphere. There's no chance of Cardiff putting 10 men behind the ball and going for a point is there? So I think it will be a good game.
"You look at the forward line they've got and I don't think there's anybody better in the whole division. They are a lot better than most Premier League clubs."
The Cardiff City boss Dave Jones wants to finish top of the Championship and believes it is still possible. It would take a massive reversal of fortunes for QPR on the field, but it's not impossible if Cardiff were to win Saturday. There are so many ifs or buts surrounding this season promotion race, last season it was all sown up with Newcastle and West Brom promoted.

Cardiff look to Saturday
![]() |
| The big one |
After the weekend games, it looks like a three horse race for the final automatic promotion spot. Cardiff and Norwich have only a point separating them while Reading have now entered the sprint to the finish on May 7th finishing line. They are three points off second place currently occupied by Cardiff. Defeat for Swansea has seen them drop off the pace at this critical time with only four games to go. However, it could all change by Monday evening when the Easter fixtures are over, fans will just have to wait a see.
Top of the table QPR play tonight at home to Derby the ideal outcome would be a win for Derby especially with the Londoners visiting the Cardiff City Stadium. If they do win tonight they will go nine points clear if not and they lose at Cardiff it with mean they would only have a three points lead going into the last three games.
Jay Bothroyd tweeted after the game he picked up a slight strain, but he expects to the fits for the QPR game. Stephen McPhail needed a pre-math injection to ensure he could line up against Portsmouth and in the press today declaring his goal to play through the pain barrier to help Cardiff to their goal of promotion.
The Cardiff boss looks to have most of this squad available for QPR on Saturday unless there is a training ground mishap. The game will is live on BBC1 Saturday and with it being first against second in the Championship will generate a lot of interest. Cardiff expect a nearly or sell out crowd for the game with tickets selling well. QPR have sold their allocation.

The odd couple and the EPL dream - Football - Al Jazeera
Thanks to an unlikely alliance between a Malaysian-Chinese businessman and a once financially crippled Welsh club, there is a good chance that the English Premier League will have a third Asian owner for the 2011-2012 season.
Cardiff City are on the brink of promotion, occupying the second of two leading spots in the nPower Championship, which guarantees passage to the top flight. Last season they seemed on course for the holy grail before falling at the last hurdle, losing the play-off final to Blackpool, after finishing fourth on the table.

Cardiff still in the driving seat
Cardiff fans did have to wait long only until the sixth minute when midfielder Seyi Olofinjana rose and met the Craig Bellamy cross and headed the ball into the back of the net. A great start to the game that took some of the pressure out of the game for the fans. Portsmouth midfielder Ricardo Rocha helped himself to a red card following an off the ball incident with Jay Bothroyd. It didn't help is teammates much has Cardiff put on the pressure to find a second goal.
It came just before half time via the much maligned Bothroyd who scored his 19 goals of the season. It was not long ago he was getting a shed load of abuse from Cardiff fans, but he has now turned all that around to cheers. There was a bit of a melee in the visitors goalmouth and the ball found its way to Bothroyd, who than had the simplest of tap ins to score. It was not his best goal, but they all count.
Cardiff when in 2-0 up at half-time 2-0 against a poor Pompey who were a down to ten men and showed little in the first half? Cardiff City fans could feel a bit more relaxed with the scoreline and enjoy the sunshine while those listening worldwide had a smug smile on their faces.
In the second half Cardiff were cruising and you could feel from the commentary there was still a goal or two in the home side and in the 75 minute Cardiff increase the score line further. It was Craig Bellamy cross that led to the goal, he was having another blinding game he also created the first with a sublime cross again. This time it was Peter Whittingham who met the ball and thundered the ball home for an excellent goal. Has fans celebrated the goal news broke that Swansea were 2-1 down at Burnley, more happy times.
With goal different all important it was imperative a clean sheet was kept, no sneaky later goal, but the only team looking like scoring were the home team. Cardiff players walked off to cheers when on so long ago it was boo's, but things change so quickly in football. Cardiff moved back to second one point ahead of third place Norwich. Reading are in fourth just three points behind Cardiff while Swansea drop to fifth, five points adrift of the Bluebirds. The fixtures for next week are crazy, see below

Seize the moment - Seize the points - Seize the day
Tick-tock, tick-tock ....... time is running out as the season comes to an end and like every Cardiff City fan I want the season to end on the 7th of May. After last season and the play-off final's who in their right mind would want to go through all that again, not me.
Last night Norwich leaped above Cardiff into second place after beating Nottingham Forest 2-1 at Carrow Road. We could have heard a pin drop when Forest took the lead after three minutes, but not in Cardiff were preys seemed to be answered. There was still a long way to go before the final whistle and how I wished the goal was scored three minutes from full-time. The jubilation of Forest fans and Cardiff fans was soon ended when Norwich pull the goal back to square the game within seven minutes.
That sinking feeling descended on me for the rest of the game which was brought home further when Norwich took the lead before the end of the first half. Forest gave it a go in the second half, but Norwich looked more likely to score.
Today the pressure is totally on Cardiff boss Dave Jones, the 11 on the pitch with nothing less than a victory will do to keep the Cardiff in the diving seat for am automatic promotion spot. I don't think there is a Cardiff fan who doesn't know if we win the last five games Cardiff are promoted. Looks like there is no injury worries ahead of the game, but for the issues about which loan players will miss out on team selection this afternoon. We will find out soon

Bluebirds out to make it four
Games for the weekend kick-off tonight when promotion rivals Norwich City take on ever shaky Nottingham Forest at home tonight. Every Cardiff will be on their knees prying for a Forest win. However, they have been in free-fall go of the top six after been in strong contention for automatic promotion. They stop the rot somewhat last Saturday with a victory against play-off seeking Burnley. The best outcome for Cardiff's would be a win for the visitors, but a draw could still useful.
| Portsmouth not the best of seasons |
Every Cardiff City fans know if we win the final five games we are promoted no pressure there then.
A few of the squad pick-up knocks on Tuesday night nothing to serious has been reported to date. Stephen McPhail, Lee Naylor, Jay Bothroyd, Kevin McNaughton and Craig Bellamy are all in the treatment table, but all expected to part of tomorrows match day squad. If there was a major problem anyway Cardiff City boss Dave Jones would likely keep close to his chest.
One problem boss Jones will face Saturday what to do with Jlloyd Samuel who Jones rested for the Sheffield game. Since Samuel's is on loan if Jones decided he will play him or put in on the bench, where would that leave either Jay Emmanuel-Thomas or Jason Koumas? There can only be five loan players eligible to be in a match squad one would have to miss out. Manager Dave Jones, as to jiggle his loan players with Bellamy and Seyi Olofinjana a cert to start Bywater on the bench or playing leaving three fighting it out for the two spots left plus keeper Jason Brown.
Of the other games fourth Swansea have a trip to Burnley who still have a chance of reaching the play-off. Reading is making a late push for an automatic promotion spot off the back of a nine game winning run of which they have won eight. They play Leicester again another team hoping to break into the play-off play. Sixth place Leeds welcome Watford and they will be to also be looking to return to form after loosing the last two games.

Five wins too much to ask for
It was a good night for supporters of Cardiff City has results on the night went mainly their way with the other top six teams. QPR, Reading along with Cardiff were the only wins while Norwich and Swansea City could only managed to draw the game of most interest to City fans while Leeds lost. A good night for Cardiff who now can look forward to the visit to Portsmouth on Saturday, they lost at home last night 3-0 to Coventry.
The Cardiff manager was happy with the outcome of the game and reminding the press at the after match conference that when they last met he couldn't full the bench the squad was so small. That was the first game of the season that ended in a 1-1 draw. He single out Craig Bellamy for his work rate something picked up by the pundits covering the game.
Goals came from Bellamy fired home on 21 minutes and had to wait until the 71 minute to extend the lead when a lovely cross from Chris Burke met the head of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. Cardiff manager Dave Jones said:
"We've got a foot on the ladder, we've worked so hard. Sheffield United were the first team we played this year and we couldn't fill the bench.
"We didn't have any players. Olofinjana and Bellamy weren't here and it was a case of the board getting us out of the trouble we were in and moving forward.
"We've gone that way and everyone's favourites [for promotion] at the start seem to have gone the other way.
"I feel for Micky, but not for 90 minutes I didn't. It wouldn't have mattered whether it was my brother, son, mother or wife in the opposition camp, it's my livelihood and I want to win.
"I'll go and have a drink with Mick now, but he won't want any pity.
"We're in a ruthless business and that's what we were tonight. We were ruthless and clinical."
Cardiff are now in the driving sat for the last automatic promotion stop win all the last five games and we are promoted to the Premier League, the are.
Saturday, 16 April 2011 - Cardiff v Portsmouth, 15:00
Saturday, 23 April 2011 - Cardiff v QPR, 12:45
Monday, 25 April 2011 - Preston v Cardiff, 15:00
Monday, 2 May 2011 - Cardiff v Middlesbrough, 17:15 (Live on Sky Sports)
Saturday, 7 May 2011 - Burnley v Cardiff, 12:45
Very interesting mix of game, the standout game has to be the visit of QPR. Based on league position and current form Cardiff should win the other four games. However, five games to go it's a case of 'don't count your chickens before they're hatched' there are many permutations over the next few weeks that can change everything.

Cardiff City team v Sheffield Utd
Bywater

The bench - Heaton Blake Gyepes Matthews Koumas Rae Emmanuel-Thomas
The big question of the night before kick-off was whether Jason Koumas starting or on the bench at Sheffield United. Well he is on the bench unsurprisingly.
Cardiff boss Dave Jones as made to change from the team that won at Doncaster, goalkeeper Tom Heaton is dropped to the bench with Stephen Bywater back between the posts. The other change is in defence with Lee Naylor get the nod ahead of Jlloyd Samuel.

Tick-tock only six games to go
It feels like games are coming fast has a speeding bullet the moment. This is giving me little time to recover from the last game, thank got the pace dies down for a week or so with no midweek games next week.
There is a lot riding on tomorrow's games, again some interesting matches thrown together as more team believe a top six finish is more than possible. Has far down as Burnley have a realistic chance of a play-off spot, and Burnley has a game in hand to play.
QPR visit Barnsley who had a good win on Saturday beating Bristol City 4-2 at home while the top of the league Londoners were trashed 4-1 by the then bottom of the table Scunthorpe United. Barnsley maybe be mid-table safe with nothing to play for, but pride they would sure love to get one over QPR.
Second place Norwich will look to get back to winning ways after losing their ten under-defeated run at Swansea on the weekend. They face Watford who have lost the last three games, but for the sake of Cardiff we can all hope they get back to winning ways.
Hull City have to travel Swansea for another game of importance for any Cardiff City fan. Swansea maybe have the second best home form in the Championship, but Hull has the best away form in the Division. In fact the visitors have not lost AN away since the end of September.
Reading have stormed into the top six off the back of a run of ten undefeated games and tomorrow they go to Scunthorpe giant killers of QPR on Saturday. Leeds in sixth place have a trip to Derby and will be looking to bolster their place in the top six. Derby look safe from the relegation zone but would like a few more wins to make sure they do.
Millwall, Nottingham Forest, Leicester, Hull and Burnley still have a chance to make the play-off over the last six games lots of thinks could change.
Tomorrow’s fixtures of importance
Barnsley (16) v (1) QPR, 19:45
Derby (19) v (6) Leeds, 19:45
Leicester (9) v (21) Crystal Palace, 19:45

Six games to go .... no pressure then
Tuesday, 12 April Sheffield Utd v Cardiff
Was it a great win at Doncaster, no really, but where did the three points go, banked into the account of Cardiff City Football Club. That in a nutshell is all I care about with only six games until the end of the season. Victory over Doncaster saw the Bluebirds stay in third spot, a point behind second place Norwich who lost at Swansea who stays fourth, but level on points with the Bluebirds.
Cardiff decided to stay 'up north' after the Doncaster game owing to the fact they were playing there near neighbour Sheffield United on Tuesday night. The last three home games for United tell a story they beat Nottingham Forest, Leeds United before loosing yesterday to Middlesbrough a game that saw them drop to the foot of the table.
They are seven points from safety and are desperate for points like Cardiff making this potentially risky for the promotion chasing Bluebirds. There has been no new news of any injury problems for the Doncaster game. There was no striker on the bench for yesterday’s game after Jon Parkin picked up a knock in training. Will have fit? My prediction for this game, they will need to play a lot better, but I will go with a 2-1 victory for the visiting Bluebirds.
Saturday, 16 April Cardiff v Portsmouth
Surprisingly Portsmouth have been wallowing mid-table all season. Even with all their troubles of the previous season they were expected to be in the mix for promotion this season. They have been stuck in the bottom half of the league table all season. They come to Cardiff with nothing to play for, expect pride. I think Cardiff at home will be too much for them 3-1.
Saturday, 23 April Cardiff v QPR
On my predictions Cardiff would come into the game off the back of three wins, I think most Cardiff fans would agree with my predictions so far. I expect QPR to still be top of the league table for the visit to the Cardiff City stadium, with Cardiff in second or third.
The game, will properly sell-out with a packed away end, my gut feeling is Cardiff will be lucky to get a point out of the game. If their promotion is secure at could be a different matter. Let’s just see what happens over the last few games after the defeat at Scunthorpe at the weekend, ideas could change.
Monday, 25 April Preston v Cardiff
It will be a quick turn around for Cardiff game on Saturday now a Monday kick-off and another foot of the table battle. With the game fifteen days away Preston are on a run of three games undefeated plus a draw from Saturday, what the form will be when the two meet, who knows. They are mounting a late attempt to escape the drop into Division One. Their pitch has come under-attack over the last few weeks as unplayable and giving an advantage to the home team.
Cardiff need to win all the remaining six games, hopefully the players and predicted form will all be on course I will be banking on a win either way.
Monday, 2 May Cardiff v Middlesbrough, 17:15
Sky Sport cameras will be descending on the Cardiff City Stadium for this one. It's unlikely, but it would be great if this game was coinciding with Cardiff winning promotion. Middlesbrough were among the favourite to be vying for a play-off spot at least, but they never looked to be in contention if fact have been in the bottom end of the table all season.
Last home game on much pressure then, it has to be a win, but who knows this far ahead with the team will be? A full squad or will the team racked with injuries/suspension I have no crystal ball, but I just wish as a Cardiff fan where in the place I expect QPR to be in, promoted.
Saturday, 7 May Burnley v Cardiff, 12:45
The last time Cardiff won a final away game of the season was in 2001/2002, time for a change. Depending on the situation of the two clubs and e.g. promotion or play-off spots this game could be featured on TV. That will be up to Sky Sports and the BBC who will pick which games to show before the final weekend of the season.
I will stick with my belief that Cardiff will not fail this season and will end the season with a victory and celebrate promotion in front of their jubilant fans in the ground and millions around the world.

A late, late show at Doncaster
| Hero of the day Jason Koumas |
Cardiff City did the business at Doncaster finely, but it wasn't easy listening. When the game when 1-1 my heart sunk, there is a rumour City can hold on to a 1-0 lead so when they scored I just thought not again, not today.
I know Cardiff boss Dave Jones will come out was some statement like 'we were the better team' but listen to the radio and the pundits on TV the home team put on the most pressure for most of the game. When you win do you care how the manager sees the game?
The turning point of the game was definitely the 87 minute went Dave Jones made a substitution taking of Chris Burke and sending on Jason Koumas. No one expected what was going to happen next there was only three minutes of normal time plus want the ref added for extra time.
Within minutes of coming on Jay Bothroyd was fouled, normally we would see Peter Whittingham take the free kick, but up stepped Jason Koumas to fire home the ball to put Cardiff back into the lead with less than minute of normal time left.
I am not a fan of time-add-on sometimes it works for you and sometimes it doesn't, but this season it's been helpful, Reading and Preston come to mind. Both game Cardiff salvage a point when it looked they would get none.
With the score at 2-1 five minutes of extra time can make any fan very nervy. However, in the last minute of extra time it was Koumas again who sealed the game and the points to make it 3-1, roll on Tuesday and Sheffield United. Koumas has had a torrid time since joining Cardiff on loan from Wigan fitness and injury problems and then the problem of the number of loan players allowed to be in the match day squad. That left him a bit part player on the bench more often than not, but fans will surely call for him to start.
Cardiff City team v Doncaster
Heaton,
Quinn, McNaughton, Keinan, Samuel,
McPhail, Whittingham, Olofinjana, Burke,
Bothroyd Bellamy(c),
Brown (gk)), Blake, Gyepes, Matthews, Rae, Koumas, Naylor.
No change was what was expected and no surprise Cardiff boss Dave Jones stuck with the same starting eleven that beat Derby last weekend. Tom Heaton looks like he shook off the knock he picked up at the last weekend. Two changes to the bench for the last game, Koumas and Naylor on for Emmanuel-Thomas and Parkin. No striker on the bench?
Three trainees sign on with pro deals
Three players will take the next step up after being offered professional contracts by Cardiff City. The three striker Nat Jarvis, midfield Ibrahim Farah and defender Alex Evans are all second year trainees.
Nat Jarvis has yet to make his debut for the Bluebirds, but had a loan spell earlier in the season with Division Two outfit Southend United. He was involved in eight games, league and cup without getting on the score-sheet.
"I'm in the final year of my Academy scholarship with Cardiff and looking for a professional contract so this loan spell with Southend is a big deal for me to try and do that," said Jarvis.
Ibrahim Farah known as 'Ibby' from Somali descent is a hard-tacking midfielder as yet to make his mark in senior football
"I was 15 years old and playing for Grangetown Boys Club when I was invited along to the trial," said Farah. "I was spotted and have been here ever since."
Alex Evans is a highly rated by the centre-half who hails for Merthyr Tydfil.
Nervy wait for kick-off
To be honest it doesn't matter what happens in other games all that matters is that Cardiff City win. Pretty or ugly football who cares, a win is a win coming with three much needed points.
On current Cardiff have a small edge over today's opponents Doncaster who of the last six games have won one, drawn two and lost three with Cardiff just winning just one extra game. City trash them 4-0 at home earlier in the season, another scoreline like that and very Cardiff City fan will be happy.

Warnock chasing City midfielder?
Premiership bound QPR are rumoured to be interested in Cardiff City loan midfielder weighing Seyi Olofinjana. The Fulham & Hammersmith Chronicle is reporting the story as Rangers boss Neil Warnock plans for the future.
Olofinjana is with Cardiff for the season and will return to Hull at the end of season, back to Hull City where he still has a year on his contract left. The Cardiff City boss Dave Jones would probably like to sign him, but decision would be made when Cardiff know where they will be playing, Premier League or Championship.
He moved from Stoke City to Hull City in a £3million deal in 2009, but made little impact on his arrvial, playing nineteen games, a mixture of starts and off the bench with one goal. His impact at the Cardiff City stadium has been far greater. He has been the lynch-pin of Dave Jones midfield and, but for an injury would have played more than the thirty-two games he has played to date. Only off the bench once and with five goals to his credit. A source in the QPR camp said:
"QPR need a mixture of athleticism and skill for next season, and although Olofinjana has had a mixed couple of years - look what the manager did for the careers of Heidar Helguson and Wayne Routledge to name but two."
This rumour is what it is, just a rumour. Olofinjana is a professional and will have one thought on his mind to finish the season with a promoted Cardiff City. He will be going nowhere until that final whistle of the season.

Will Heaton be fit for Doncaster?
Doubt has raisin its ugly head regarding the fitness of Cardiff City goalkeeper Tom Heaton. News broke lunchtime yesterday on an unofficial website closely followed by a statement on the official Cardiff City website. >>>>> Official Statement
Heaton was welcomed back into the squad on Saturday after recovering from injury and play his part in the 4-1 win over Derby. It would seem that during the game he picked up a niggle which was a tad more serious than first through be a chance. A Bluebirds official told the South Wales Echo:
"Scans have shown the injury is not as bad as was first thought."Medical and coaching staff will monitor Tom's fitness in the coming days, but he remains in contention for Doncaster."
Cardiff boss Dave Jones will have to wait on the fitness test before making the final decision on his squad for the trip to Doncester. If he is not fit to travel Jones expected to turn to on-loan keeper Stephen Bywater who had sat out Saturday game against Derby league rules state loan players cannot play against their club. With his other keeper David Marshall out for the season he could turn to his other loan keeper Jason Brown. However, it's unlikely he has only limited time between the post since his move from Gillingham to Blackburn in 2006.
Manager Dave Jones was unhappy after the Derby game to see his team give away a late goal. With it so tight at the top of Championship so goal average could be all important. The Cardiff boss will be hoping for a win and a clean sheet.

Chopra on the mend
The rumour is that striker Michael Chopra could still play some part in the season. It was thought he would be out for the rest of the season due to his due injured hamstring.
He is reported as making good progress and has resumed light training it would be highly welcome by everyone at the club if he was to comeback earlier rather than later. There is no official word from the club on the progress he is making they could be playing any news close to their chest.
However, with the possibility of the season being extend well into May if Cardiff finish in the play-off have a major asset like Chopra back to full fitness.
Points, Wins and Promotion
Saturday, 9 April Doncaster v Cardiff
After the great win over Derby County, the team looks to have come through without any injuries. So they will be at full strength for the trip to Doncaster. On paper it should be a three pointer Cardiff trashed Doncaster 4-0 at the start of the season at the CCS and since New Years Day they have only won two home games.
Having lost the last two games they have been drifting towards the bottom end of table since Christmas. They look to be safe from the drop, they are nine points clear of the relegation zone, but have to watch their back. I'm going to predict a 2-0 win for Cardiff.
Tuesday, 12 April Sheffield Utd v Cardiff
There is only 20 odd miles between Doncaster and Sheffield it would be beneficial if they stayed in the area instead of travelling up and back. It should be a win for the visitors they took a beating Monday night against QPR. There is another twist to this game United won their last two home games beating follow fellow promotion candidates, Nottingham Forest and Leeds respectively.
They are in deep trouble, third in the league a massive seven points from safely. Unless something dyer happens to the Cardiff squad this game I predict another win for Cardiff, I will go with a 2-1 victory.
Saturday, 16 April Cardiff v Portsmouth
Surprisingly Portsmouth have been wallowing mid-table all season. Even with all their troubles of the previous season they were expected to be in the mix for promotion this season. I will stick with my belief that Cardiff will not fail this season and will end the season with a victory and celebrate promotion in front of their jubilant fans in the ground and millions around the world. I predict 3-1 victory.
