It was a good afternoon for South Cardiff the home victory 3-1 one over West Wallsend maintained the position in the top four in the league.

SOUTH Cardiff coach Steve Piggott had no doubts his young Gunners outfit had the ability to be a force in the Northern NSW State League.

It was just a matter of convincing his players. The self-belief was never more evident than when South Cardiff came from behind to beat West Wallsend 3-1 at Ulinga Oval yesterday. The win was the Gunners' fourth straight and third in a week and shot them into outright third place on 25 points.

"The boys are finally starting to believe in themselves.
"We were stunned early, but were able to come back and probably should have won by more.
"We created a lot of chances and played some good football.
"At the start of the year there was a bit of negativity in the way we played. Gradually we have been able to change that and are reaping the rewards.
"We are third now and our [finals] destiny is in our own hands."

Nick Russell was the hero yesterday. The attacking midfielder scored a brace and supplied the corner that resulted in a West Wallsend own goal. The Gunners had a goal disallowed, Daniel Johnson hit the crossbar in the first half and his brother Jarryd did likewise in the second.

No league game for Southy next weekend they take on Solo Cup duty with a Q/Final against Byron Bay Rams who play in the Football Far North Coast Premier League. The Q/Finals are due to be played on Saturday with the Semi-Finals played the following day. The Grand Final will take place on August 6th.

Meanwhile in the Zone Premier League Cardiff City FC (Tigers) lost again to New Lambton Eagles 3-1 on the road. They were riding high at the top of the league a few weeks ago they have now dropped down too fourth.
