Meanwhile over the border

The Welsh teams playing over the border in England are all doing well this early into the season.

In the Championship Cardiff City and Swansea City are second and third respectively in the battle to win promotion to the Premier League. There are only three points between the Welsh rivals going into this weekend games.

In the Blue Square Premier Newport County are in a play-off place looking to make it back into the Football League since they went bust in 1989. There last season in the Football League was 1987/88 after which they were relegated to the then  Conference only to go out of business in February 1989. Wrexham just outside the top five and are in there third season outside Football League looking along with Newport restoring league football.
Further down the non-league ladder Merthyr Town who rose from the death bed of Merthyr Tydfil are top of the Toolstation Western League - Division One. In North Wales Colwyn Bay are second in the Evo-Stik Premier Division, both clubs dreaming of reaching the Football League.
