Fleur de Lys are out of the Welsh Cup after losing 3-1 to last season Welsh League champions Goytre United who were in the pot for the third round yesterday. The four match run lasted until last Saturday the furthest they had reached in the competition.
They will get some prize money for reaching the second round just £750 for losing. Not much in the way of prize money for the little Welsh club but if they had lost in any of the earlier rounds they would have got nothing. If it was the second round in the English FA Cup they would receive £27,000. Has for the prize in Scottish and Northern Irish not even the Google search machine can’t find their prize money payments for them.
The ginat killing of the day came at the expensive of the once might Barry Town who were going to be the Rangers/Celtic of Welsh football, they lost at home in extra time to Corus Steel 2-1.
Goytre United are at home again for the next round and face a toughie against Welsh Premier League Carmarthen Town.
