It has been confirmed by the Welsh boss Brian Flynn that Cardiff City defender Darcy Blake will make his debut tonight in Switzerland.
He will replace Nottingham Forest Chris Gunter who received a straight red card last Friday night against Bulgaria at the Cardiff City Stadium. Injury put paid to ex-boss John Toshack attempts to give the versatile City player his debut but now here has a chance to make his mark at an international level
Flynn told the South Wales Echo:
“Darcy gets his chance and he deserves it, although there wasn’t much in it between him and Adam.“I guess the experience Darcy has gained in the Championship, last season and this, got him the nod.“He has made huge strides from where he was a year ago and playing for Wales can only help his club career with Cardiff.“He has got terrific pace, power in the tackle and, for his size, is as good as anyone I’ve seen in the air. He times his jumps to perfection.”
Along with Blake it was revealed Adam Matthews was also under consideration to replace Gunter. Could that mean a spot on the bench for the Cardiff City youngster?
