Ipswich Town boss Roy Keane has spoken about the possibility of the Cardiff City striker join his squad in a roundabout way. The rumours have been running for awhile now, some reports put the deal as on or then off.
Yesterday McCormack’s agent broke cover and said he had talked to Ipswich, the first official,
"I have spoken to Ipswich chief executive Simon Clegg about Ross and we are now waiting for Ipswich to make a formal offer to Cardiff."Once that happens and an offer is accepted we will discuss personal terms with Ipswich."However, there are a four or five others clubs also chasing Ross and we will see offers come in for him."
The possible deal is complicated involving a swap between two players McCormack going to Ipswich and Jon Stead going the other way. The rumour mill has been going into overtime on this story there is also a suggestion that in the swap deal Stead would be coming with so cash to make up the deal.
Keane believes any deal is a long way off, Stead in the mean time has talked to Championship rivals Bristol City and Premiership new boys Blackpool. Keane said: “There’s a lot of work to be done on that one. Jon Stead could possibly go the other way, but there is a lot of work to be done on that as well.
“That’s the one deal I wouldn’t be too sure is going to happen. There’s a lot of chatting going on and when there’s too much chatting that’s not really good.”
The Daily Mirror has the deal as off today after McCormack who is reported to be fuming made the 800-mile trip to Ipswich for what he thought was to discuss his move but Keane wanted ‘face to face’ to talk.
Knowing that Cardiff could be willing to sell for the right deal could bring in others into the market. City boss Dave Jones won’t be in a hurry to sell any player, so far he has brought in a goal keeper, defence and midfield cover but has yet to bring in a forward.
