Ipswich chasing McCormack now

After his frustrating attempts to sign Cardiff striker Michael Chopra is Ipswich Town boss Roy Keane going to look elsewhere, namely towards is team mate striker in waiting Ross McCormack.

McCormack is finding hard at the Cardiff City stadium to break-up the partnership between Chopra and Jay Bothroyd to play his preferred position in attack. More often or not the Cardiff City boss Dave Jones plays in wide in midfield. Last summer his frustration with the situation led him to ask the then Chairman Peter Ridsdale to activate a 'gentleman's agreement' in his contract which stipulates that he can speak to any Premier League club who bid for his services.

Hull City at the time where interested and later Portsmouth but Hull were the more active in their pursuit but Ridsdale said there was not such agreement in place. Hull continued in McCormack but the valuation of £5million was just too much for the then boss Phil Brown to stomach.

McCormack said at the time,

"I would probably say £5m is an over-valuation for someone who has had one season in England and done well. I joined for about £100,000, so it's a lot of money.
"I think it's pricing people out of the market, but if a club wants someone enough, they'll pay it."
He (Brown) then said he would be interested in taking Joe Ledley as well with rumours of a £10million bid for the two.

The talk is of Keane take the Scotland striker in exchange for the former Blackburn and Sunderland striker Jon Stead coming the other way who happen to score Saturday in Ipswich’s 3-1 win at Middlesbrough. This sudden interest in McCormack is surprising has Keane has be linked with Wigan and ex-Swansea striker Jason Scotland. Even is boss at Wigan said there was strong interest from Ipswich for Scotland.
