The Ipswich owner Marcus Evans has promised to back is manager Roy Keane with cash in the transfer market. One of Keane top targets is still Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra and it was rumoured he had a bid turned down earlier in the summer.
Dave Jones is not of a mind to listening to bids for his players has doesn’t have to sell, the Malaysian owner are backing him to keep the players he wants. They could easy cash in on him and other players to help with the finances of the club.
The Ipswich boss took the opportunity during the sale of Mark Kennedy to have a chat about Chopra but without making any kind of offer. Keane said,
“I’ve spoken to Cardiff manager Dave Jones regularly while I was trying to buy Mark Kennedy and we have had conversations about all sorts of players.A few days ago Jones confirm Ipswich made table on offer only to have it turn down, it was nowhere near enough to spark a interest in the enquiry, Jones said,
“But I think we have to be respectful to all parties and not go too deep into the players we’re interested in.”
“Roy Keane has made enquiries about him, but the money they are offering is less than what we owe Sunderland. It would take one hell of a crazy offer to get Chopra away from Cardiff and it would have to be more than is owed to Sunderland, and then some.
“Chops is happy here, but, like everyone else, he wants to see people come in. Why would I want sell one of my best players unless it’s a knock-out punch?”
