Since hearing about Lee Trundle and the Welsh Premier League I haven’t been able to stop chucking to myself. So you can imagine what happen when I heard he had signed for Neath Athletic, I have just about stopped laughing.
No disrespect to Neath but he had some better offer Yeovil Town, Tranmere Rovers and Swindon Town all showed a interest in the striker. It would have kept him in the Football League and Newport County offer him a berth in the Conference. The chance of European football could have been a factor in his decision.
Most players at the end of their careers head for Australia, America or Scotland but even Trundle could turn down the crazy money he is reported to be offer. He has signed a three-year-deal with wages of £2,500 a week, probably the same amount as the weekly wage of some of the clubs in the Welsh Premier League.
The Merseysider will have come full circle stating his career in non-league football Stalybridge Celtic and will end in non-league.
