Magennis joins Aberdeen

One of the players release by Cardiff boss Dave Jones at the end of the season as found a new club. Young striker Josh Magennis signed a deal with Aberdeen today after a successful medical.

He joined Cardiff from Northern Ireland club Glentoran youth team as a goalkeeper switching to the Bluebirds youth team in 2006. Earlier in his career he was an outfield player. The nearest he got playing in goal was when he was on the bench for the Liverpool v Cardiff City Carling Cup game in October 2007.

He was then converted into a striker when he came on as a substitute in the Welsh Youth Cup final. The following season saw him score regular for the youth team and the reserve and impressed management and fans. He signed a professional contract on April 2009 he made debut in the opening game of the season coming on for Jay Bothroyd in the last minutes of the game.

He scored is one and only goal for the Bluebirds in the Carling Cup against Bristol Rovers at the Cardiff City stadium after coming off the bench. He was loan out to Grimsby but a chance of manager saw him return to Cardiff early. Magennis finally made his first start for Cardiff in a 1-1 draw with Blackpool but it did not end happierly for the young striker.

After only 35 minutes he broke his leg he did managed one last game for the Bluebirds before he was release the last game of the season at Derby. Magennis has recently been capped at full international level by Northern Ireland.
