We get our first fixture of the new season on Wednesday and even although it is the Carling Cup I can wait. Round 1 is split into North and South to cut down on the traveling. Relegated Portsmouth are in the draw for Wednesday (seeded) while Burnley and Hull City who were also relegated have been handed a bye into round two.
Cardiff could be drawn home or away for this 1st round game with manager Dave Jones hoping for a home tie.
Cardiff are seeded so the will be playing any of the southern region un-seeded teams below
Yeovil Town, Leyton Orient, Exeter City, Notts County, AFC Bournemouth, Dagenham & Redbridge, Gillingham, Wycombe Wanderers, Southend United, Aldershot Town, Port Vale, Northampton Town, Shrewsbury Town, Burton Albion, Hereford United, Torquay United, Barnet, Cheltenham Town, Stevenage, Oxford United,
No teams stick out among them there are a few closer than others at would be good if we do play away from home. I hope Dave Jones takes the cup campaign seriously because with the bigger clubs taking a less than serious view of the competition it very open to win. There is a European spot up for grubs for the winner.
