They seek him here, they seek him there those pressman seek him everywhere. Yesterday it was believe Joe Ledley is in Rome talking to Roma about a possible deal. However, it has been revealed he was closer to home talk with Steve Borley and Cardiff City. Ledley is now gone off on holiday to consider his future.
The Scottish Daily Record is reporting he is locked in talks with Cardiff City as they attempt to stop him moving north to Celtic. Cardiff is believed to have bettered the offer made by the Scottish giants of £20,000 a week. Ledley has been give the VIP treatment by Celtic on Monday and held talks and now Cardiff who were offer the same figure have up their original offer.
A move up north is not beneficial to the Welsh club has they will be no compensation payment for the player. If Ledley was not out of contract within week the Bluebirds could expect a payday of over £5million so there is a major incentive to hope he will have a change of heart about Championship football next season. If a Premier League club were sign him most agree a compensation fee of around £2.5million would be about the best the City could get, ever lower maybe.
He has constantly said he wants Premiership football so do both Celtic and Rangers the Scottish Leagues a poor by comparison. If he is thinking about Champions League football here better think again, Celtic’s record is very poor. They have only managed to reach the second round and Rangers his other suitors from north of the border have fair little better.
Are Roma interested? Three more European teams are been linked Greek outfit Panathinaikos, Turkish big guns Fenerbahce and Galatasaray of course if anyone outside English system will see Cardiff lose out on millions.
If Cardiff are willing to top the Celtic offer they need a carrot to pull the deal off an option to move during the summer could be a deal breaker in my book. So if I was chairman I would offer him £25,000 a week on a three year contract with an option for a summer transfer. If he was to go after next season the extra wages would be covered by the transfer fee and if he stayed it would mean we were promoted.
I leave the final word to the player himself when after the Play-off final defeat, "Whatever happens after that depends on the new chairman. I have got to talk to him now and we will see what he says.
"It's down to them to offer me a new deal and I want to play in the Premier League with Cardiff.
"I've not thought about this being my last game for the club. I will give it my all, hopefully I will still be here next season but if not then I have enjoyed every minute of my time here."
