There is a small piece in the Mirror Football Spy section suggesting Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill is after Cardiff’s 18-year-old fullback Adam Matthews.

A number of clubs have been linked with the young defender Manchester United and Arsenal have had him watched. According to the article O’Neill first wants to ship out right-back Adam Young who is homesick to return to London and is a target for Fulham and West Ham.

Matthews broke into the first team last season and took is chance with both hands and was keeping out more Senior players out of the starting line up. A lot of fans were surprised he did not figure in the play-off games he was not injury at the time. The club opened contract takes before the end of last season but it is unsure how far the talks have gone but he is just one of a number of players with only a year left on their contracts.
