Looks like Cardiff City defender Darren Dennehy is a hit on loan with Gillingham so much, so the Gills boss Mark Stimson would like to extend his loan period until the end of the season. Cardiff has agreed but it is down to the player now.It is more than likely he will agree has even with injury hit Cardiff they seem to be able to do without the young defender. Since join the Bluebirds in June 2008 he has not played one game for the City, he has been on the bench as an unused substitute. Dennehy joined the Bluebirds with a bit of a fanfare has he turned down a new one year contract with is then club Everton in search of first team football and with a few offers decided to plum for Cardiff City.
In his first season, there was no opportunity for first team football so he jumped at the chance to go on loan to Hereford. He was there for 3 months where he only played three games injured for some of the time. Hereford asked again in July 2009 if they could loan him which Cardiff City once again for another 3 months this time playing more games. Within a month of coming back to Cardiff, he was out on his travels this time a month’s loan to Gillingham.
Boss Mark Stimson told the Kent Messenger, “We’re trying to sort something out with the lad, He’s interested in staying and we’re interested in keeping him plus Cardiff have given us permission to keep him if he wants to stay”.
“He’s come in and done well. He’s a young lad, he’s big and he puts his head in and he must have been performing pretty well because he’s been called up for the Republic of Ireland under-21 side again. We’ve helped him get back in contention and that’s good for Darren.”
He looks to be no future for with Cardiff with Dave Jones the boss anyway so he should take up the off he as more chance of first team football.
