At his age only been 18-year-old he has brains enough to no he would be better off stick with the City where he would play more first team football. If he was to join, any of clubs rumoured to be watching him Manchester United or Arsenal his first team opportunities would be very limited.
Just look what as happen to Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger used him for mainly early round of Cup games and in European games mostly from the bench. This season he has received more starts in the Premiership but Arsenal boss Wenger is on record has saying he will protect is young star. Another City youngest who had a different experience with his move Chris Gunter. Tottenham snapped him up but like youngest in the top team he was used for European and Cup games so he when out on loan to Nottingham Forest before they brought him.
Even here at Cardiff boss Dave Jones still tries to protect his young players like Matthews and Aaron Wildig he knows playing young players to much to early can leave a player burnt out at a yound age. Both have played a few more games than he would have like or they would of expected because of Dave Jones injury problems and his inability to bring in new faces last month.
Matthews speaking to the South Wales Echo said, “If I went to a Premiership club, I would not get to play so much so I can rule out a move like that.
“I’m happy to remain at Cardiff for as long as possible. There is a great bunch of players here and a good coaching staff.
“I play regularly here, so I’m learning anyway,”
Asked about reports linking him with a £4m move to a Premier League giant, Matthews went on: “I just try to forget about it to be honest and remain level-headed.
“I’m just concentrating on playing my best football for Cardiff and, with the speculation over and the January transfer window gone, I can just get on and do that.”
