A rumoured target of Cardiff boss Dave Jones Blackburn’s’ midfielder Steven Reid is reported in the Irish Examiner happy to fight for a place in the Blackburn team. The midfielder has been on loan at QPR played in Blackburn’s 3-1 FA Cup 3rd Round defeat on Saturday. The player is hoping he did enough to show manager Sam Allardyce he is worth a more of a chance to see his name on the team sheet and gain a new contract.
Boss Dave Jones and chairman Peter Ridsdale were both out and about this weekend checking out players on the managers wants list has bringing in new blood is a priority. After the weekend story in the News of the World, the fans will have to wait and see if there is any money in the pot new players.
Both manager and chairman disappeared in the world of football to do their scouting, where they were and who they were watching is there secret but boss Dave Jones would like to see movement on the player front sooner rather than later. Speaking to the press he said, “I’ve given my list to the chairman and we have already started work on that.
“Hopefully, over the next week or so, we will bring in the players we need.”
“I want six new players in during the January transfer window, but I’ll settle for four.
“The chairman has promised that all the money that comes in will go towards bringing in players.
“I don’t know how much is available, but if we get £3m then we can do a lot of damage with that.
“We’ll see who’s around. We have been keeping tabs on a lot of people, but every game I’ve been to I’ve seen another 10 or 15 managers there as well.
“So what I’m looking at I will guarantee you everybody else is looking at. If we’ve got the money, though, we’ll make sure we use it wisely.
“The money we’ve had before we’ve used wisely, but this is the first time in my time here that we’ve come to the January window and we’ve been able to have a push and strengthen the squad.”
While Cardiff are looking to bring in new players they are also looking to loan out some of their younger players to get some experience all players loan out have now return to the club. Tony Capaldi was on the bench for Leeds against Manchester United loan spell ends today so he should be back.
Ridsdale has a lot on his plate over the next few days but said on the subject of new players, “Dave has given me a long list. They are players who fit the bill for Dave Jones and Cardiff City. We will move to get players in as quickly as possible.”
