First name out of the trap being linked with the Bluebirds is Wigan Athletic midfielder Ben Watson according to BBC Sports. Watson has been on loan at QPR since August and has been a regular in the starting line-up scoring two goals. This is not the first time Watson he was linked in the summer when Cardiff boss Dave Jones was rumoured to want to sign him on a season long loan. Cardiff could have a battle on their hands with QPR to wrench him away, he is rumoured to be unsettled with the London club.
The BBC report indicates some contact between the clubs but yet to go into the finer detail, but Cardiff would have to pay half of his wages while Wigan play the other half. Apparently, his wages when he joined Wigan were in the region of £20-25,000-a-week.
According to his boss at Wigan Roberto Martinez he wants to talk to Watson about is future, "We're going to speak with Ben as soon as his loan finishes and we'll decide how he feels about the whole situation.
"We had a few other clubs that approached us with the idea of having Ben.
"The most important thing is to see how he has developed since he has been at QPR and we'll make a decision then."
