The retiement of Riccy Scimeca and injury problems to other midfield players leaves manager Dave Jones with a bit of a headache. Joe Ledley has an ongoing hip problem, which he believes need an operation to fix while Stephen McPhail is still having cancer treatment and not expected back training until well into February. Peter Whittingham is likely to be fit for the Leicester tomorrow but has been troubled with a niggling thigh problem.
Cardiff have a busy 10 day league period in the next week or so and the last thing a manager needs is players carrying niggles which can turn into full-blown injuries. Speaking about Joe Ledley to BBC Wales he said, "Joe is carrying the injury and we need to get him through for as long as we possibly can.
"He will go for as long as he possibly can, but if it's not right for him to go any longer we'll have to cope with that.
"At the moment he's playing week-to-week so he gets a few days to settle down, but three games in 10 days will be a big test for him."
Jones now deems a new midfielder signing a priority in January when the transfer window opens, Cardiff have a novel way of raising funds for new signings involving buying season tickets. A few months ago, the club asked its fans to buy a season ticket for next season by December 31 and they would have the price frozen for the next five seasons, it was reported that the take-up was slow. Now the deal is the same but now if Cardiff were to gain promoted at the end of the season fans would get a refund on the cost of next season ticket, take up on the offer as raised.
Boss Jones hopes to bring new blood elsewhere on the pitch to create more competition within his squad. The boost in the club’s finances will mean funds should be available for boss Dave Jones talking to BBC Wales he said, "We go through phases at this football club.
"This is an opportunity to push on, something we've never been able to do before.
"If can raise the money we are trying to it will give us a far greater chance of getting what we want.
