The Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale who recently criticism Joe Ledley about his lack of form looks to have hit a nerve with the player. The quote saying: "Joe Ledley is playing like he is somewhere else already," made by Ridsdale and fans displease with the Welsh International has made the player put his side to his problems to Mark Bloom and the South Wales Echo; he told the paper he needs an operation on an on-going hip problem.
Although not commenting on the chairman’s outburst, Ledley told the paper he has been playing in pain for the last three months that as restricting his movement while playing. He told the paper, “To tell you the truth I need an operation on my hip. I’ve been told that it will keep me out of the game for at least 10 to 12 weeks.
“The gaffer Dave Jones wants me to play through the injury, but I need an operation as soon as possible.
“It badly restricts my movement on certain things and it aggravates certain parts of my body.
“Nobody is going to see the best of me until that operation is done and sorted out properly. I’m not using it as an excuse for my form, it’s a fact.”
Ledley’s future is still in doubt with the Bluebirds having not signed the new contract offered to him back in the summer. Come June/July he will be out of contract with the club and will be free to find a new club but the City will still be able to claim compensation from any new club that signs him. If he is playing with an on-going injury what club would be interested in signing him when the January transfer window opens, he would fail the medical.
While in a contract stalemate, the Cardiff midfielder as miss out on thousands of pounds in wages.
Cardiff City captain Mark Hudson has jumped in the defended under-fire Ledley has the fans also hit out that is form this season but Hudson back him calling him a great player tell BBC Wales, "We're all together.
"I think we have to stick up for players like Joe.
"We all take it personally if one player gets singled out.
"We don't want that to happen as we're all in it together and that's the way every player at the club feels.
"We're all there to back each other up and it's not nice when one player gets singled out for that sort of thing.
"Joe has been a great player for the club so I think it is a bit harsh on him and he is still young with a great future ahead of him - and we're going to be there right behind him."
The Cardiff City boss as warned his players after the Ipswich game that heads could roll for the Preston game Saturday. If the story about Ledley is true with him not being 100% fit, surely he must be out for the game.
With such a lean squad, the manager hands are somewhat tied even with the promised of some fresh blood in January. There are six important games before the transfer window opens, more depending how fast Dave Jones can act to bring in some new players.
