Bluebirds looking for another away win

Sunday will be the first time Cardiff have met Middlesbrough in the league since back in the 80’s, season 1984/85 precisely and the last the City beat Middlesbrough away in the league was March 1968. Since the 80’s Cardiff have faced them three times in the FA Cup drawing 2-2 at the old Ninian Park, but lost in the replay 2-1, 93/94. The most recent game was again in the FA Cup on route to the FA Cup final when Cardiff beat the then Premiership club 2-0 at the Riverside Stadium.

Back to this Sunday Cardiff are going into the game off the back of an excellent 2-0 win over fellow promotion rivals West Brom, The win pushed Cardiff back into third place in the league table. Bluebird boss Dave Jones will have Jay Bothroyd back after he missed the midweek win through suspension.

Cardiff are reported to have four injury worries for the game, there is the long going sage with midfielder Joe Ledley who is still nursing a hip problem but he could well start as he has been passed fit for Sunday's game.

Other player's causing Dave Jones concern is Riccy Scimeca, Kevin McNaughton and Kelvin Etuhu are all carrying injuries and could miss out. McNaughton and Etuhu have both just come back from long-term injuries while Scimeca has just broke back into the first team.

Middlesbrough lost Tuesday night at home 3-0 to Blackpool and has not won a home since the 20th Oct leaving Manager Gordon Strachan still looking for his first home win since taking over from Gareth Southgate. The North East club were third in the league but have dropped to tenth but still in touch with the play-off places.
