Match Reports - Plymouth v Cardiff City

All the doom and gloom about waken team, youth player seem to have came to nothing after Cardiff City put Plymouth to the sword. Hero of the night was Michael Chopra who hit top form blasting a hat-trick keep him top of the league scorers and put Cardiff back on top of the league.

Without a number of first teamers Cardiff City boss Dave Jones gave young 17 year-old Adam Matthews his league debut has the youthful subs bench show four of the seven were first year pro’s. City score a goal way too early for some fans has the minutes ticked on, the opening goal in the 4th minute came from a link-up between City’s to strikers Chopra and Jay Bothroyd who laid the ball across goal and Chopra was there to put the ball into the net.

Plymouth could have squared the score minutes after from a corner when Gavin Rae, making his first league start for season almost headed the ball into his own net luckily David Marshall pushing the ball to safety. That scare over it was Cardiff who was pushing the game along and looking threatening but a one goal is never safe but half time Cardiff went in 1-0 up with the slimmest of leads.

Most of the second half was nail biting time for Cardiff City fans where they are, that the game, listen to the game on the radio or watch Gillette Soccer Special/Saturday on Sky a 1-0 score line always leaves it open for that last minute equaliser and Plymouth were push hard to secure one, but not tonight. With ten minutes to go Peter Whittingham sent a ball through to a waiting Chopra who rounded the keeper to put the ball in the hit. Chopra had not finish let with five minute left on normal time Burke was tripped in the box and the ref pointed to the penalty spot and up stepped Chopra to claim the match ball no argy barrage with Bothroyd this time has a put the ball in the back of the net, 3-0.

There was still time for some drama to play out when Tony Capaldi handled the ball in the penalty area and again the ref pointed to the spot, goal scored 3-1 but the ref red carded Capaldi for a second bookable offence.
