He was touted has one of the hottest properties in football but to date he has not had one offer tabled for him. I do not think any Cardiff fan expected Joe Ledley would still be here after the summer transfer window shut. There are a few days left and there could still but a late bid, but it would have to be at the clubs valuation of £6m before the club would be interest. With only one-year left on his current contract and if he doesn’t sign a new one he could talk to other clubs in January and line himself up a summer time transfer and walk out of the club with the City at the mercy of the compensation panel. This morning Radio Wales were reporting that Joe Ledley would be signing a new contract sometime today. It looks unlikely anything would be signed before the transfer deadline closing at midnight on Monday.
Cardiff City boss Dave Jones has said on several occasion he wants Ledley to stay and with no interest for the player it seems Jones could be getting his wish. The club is talking to Ledley’s agent about the new contract there should not be any stumbling block over a deal. Ledley would like a get-out clause, should any Premier League club make a £6m bid the price the Bluebirds value him at.
The City midfielder said today, “I’m just waiting for the club to come back with the terms on offer, hopefully within a few days or over the next week.
“If the contract is right I will sign it. It has to be right for me and my future, but Cardiff City is in me and always will be.
“Every player wants to be in the Premier League and I am no different.
“It would suit me to do that with Cardiff City – right at this moment in time that looks a real possibility.
“I’m excited about the future here. There are only a few days left in the transfer window and if nothing happens I will remain a Cardiff City player. I’m happy with that.
“The football we are playing takes me back three years to when we were flying at the top of the Championship. We could not finish the job then, while last season we missed out on the play-offs by one goal. That was hard.
“But we have learned from those experiences. We are better as a group today because of that. We have the players and the depth to achieve what we want.”
