Jones has not been happy with the whole media saga with has hit the papers every day this week. On the zip side of the story it is rumoured that McCormack could start today in the opening game of the season with both Jay Bothroyd and Chris Burke having late Fitness tests later this morning according to the South Wales Echo.
Hull have bid £3m for the striker with many Cardiff City fans telling the club to hold out for a bit more, but the clubs value is £5m.They may take a bit less for a quick sale but not £2m but it look like Hull boss Brown is going to take their time even to the last day of the transfer window to see if the bluebirds want the money or the player.
As Jones prepared his side for today’s Championship opener against Scunthorpe at the club’s new stadium, the on-going situation is a distraction Jones could do without.
And Jones admitted he was unhappy the saga had been played out in the media over the last week with Brown saying he felt the 22-year-old Scotland international was over-priced.
Brown also went on the record insisting £5m was crazy for a Championship player.
Unhappy Jones said in the South Wales Echo, “There are ways of going about business and I think it being plastered all over the papers is not the right way to go about it.
“We turned the bid down from Hull because it wasn’t acceptable. Phil is coming out saying we spent £100,000 on a player and then a year later he thinks it unfair that we are asking for that.
“That is our valuation. He is our leading goal-scorer, he got 23 goals last season and he’s an international player too.
“It’s not my fault he’s still playing in a Championship side, that’s the valuation I’ve put on him.
“Phil has to realise if I went for one of his players, I’m sure he would have a price.
“No matter how much I harped on about it he would not budge on the price – and we are not going to budge on ours.
“If I’m going to go and release a player of Ross’ calibre and he’s offering me what he’s offered me then I won’t find a player of that ilk.
“So it’s a case of if you want him, that’s the going rate and if you don’t want to pay it then go somewhere else.”
Every manager nightmare ‘the agent’ as added to all the confusion surrounding the deal when McCormack’s agent Willie McKay insisting there was now a “third party” involved in the deal.
