It’s interesting that Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale has struck some kind of deal with the Malaysian group Football Focus Asia involving a "strategic marketing alliance" but what will it do for the club?
If it help bring in some cash in the way of investment in the club great, shirt sponsorship deal or the stadium rights would be fair enough, but I will always call the stadium ‘Cardiff City Stadium’ it’s all the other stuff which is a bit of a joke if you think about.
Football in Malaysia is red, Manchester Utd and Liverpool the rest of the country is either Chelsea or Arsenal. If Cardiff were to have a pre-season tour to Malaysia they would probably have to pay their own way, while any of the big four would be given 1st class treatment all paid for.
Malaysia football pay millions to bring those clubs to play pre-season games with the chances of any kind of fan base for Cardiff over they is pie in the sky. The youth development would be a waste of time if the club are going to put any money into it, they would be better offer putting the money into Welsh youth.
Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale is talking upbeat about the link-up "We think it's a massive coup for Cardiff City Football Club.
"At this stage it's essentially a work in progress.
"You don't do things overnight in the Far East. They want to know you, trust you and trust what you say.
"It will include youth development, it will include the opportunity to explore the whole fan base.
"It will certainly include sponsorship. We are already talking to them about shirt sponsorship and stadium naming rights without any definite conclusions at this stage.
"We are also talking about their assistance in trying to put this club on the sort of financial footing that we would have liked to dream of when I first arrived at this football club."
