"Andy has been a great asset to the club since he arrived three seasons ago.
"He has terrific credentials in taking this position having played at the highest level in league football and for Wales.
"Andy is a thorough professional, who is extremely well respected by players wherever he has gone.
"His appointment reflects the club's view that it must continue to build for the future and once again maintain a serious challenge for top honours this coming season.
"Andy will have full flexibility in choosing his management team and the Board will continue to offer its full support to provide Andy with every chance of success."
